The Cardinals are still without their two remaining WBCers — both of them All-Stars — as the club heads north this morning to face the New York Mets, but the lineup that will take the field could be one manager Mike Matheny writes at times this season.

David Freese (back) returns to third base and to the No. 6 spot in the lineup, the first appearance by the World Series MVP in a week.

Adam Wainwright is set to make his penultimate start of spring training. He will have one more before his opening day assignment against Arizona on April 1.

The righty is also entering the final year of his contract, and talks between his agent and the Cardinals' ownership/front office have continued in the past week. The description given by two sources was that the negotiations are "in the Cardinals hands." The guaranteed length of the contract has been a difference between the Cardinals offer and what Wainwright's side has sought.

The Cardinals, back from their third and final off day of spring, are now carrying the full bullpen to all games.
