The Cubs and Cardinals, two long-time heated rivals, met at Wrigley Field Friday, but the game was important for only one of them.

The winning run scored when David DeJesus singled in pinch-runner Brett Jackson.
While the Cubs were trying to find pitchers for next season, the Cardinals are trying to find an extra pitcher for the postseason, as one-time ace Chris Carpenter made his first start of the season. Carpenter was injured in spring training, eventually going through shoulder surgery.
Sveum knows his Cubs have a chance to decide whether the Cardinals or Brewers can make the playoffs and "hopefully you knock them down in the standings or knock them out of the wild card."
