Captain Sidney Crosby left the Penguins to attend a family funeral, coach Dan Bylsma said Wednesday before a game against Montreal at Consol Energy Center.

Crosby joined right winger James Neal (concussion) and defenseman Paul Martin (broken thumb) in an on-ice workout prior to the Penguins' morning practice.

Those players have participated in individual workouts with strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar for three consecutive days.

Crosby (broken jaw) will not skate Thursday but will rejoin the Penguins this week, Bylsma said.
