No one with the Rockies plays with more style, verve and swag than all-star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez. There are days when his swing seems capable of shifting the standings in the National League West.

But it has become obvious over the last three seasons that he can't turn a makeshift bunch of bandaged arms and misfit toys into a contender.

This isn't football, where a quarterback can control the outcome with his arm; or basketball, where Kobe Bryant can shoot without waiting for his turn in the lineup to come back around.
