Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has confirmed he spoke to Arsenal and Liverpool over the summer, according to reports in France.

The French international was linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in June and July, before he eventually decided to stay put and signed a new contract with Lyon.

But he's now confirmed that Arsenal and Liverpool both made approaches to sound out his interest in moving to the Premier League before he extended his stay in Ligue 1.

Speaking to French newspaper Le 10 Sport, Grenier said: "Arsenal and Liverpool? There was contact.

"After that, it remains private. I am with Lyon and glad to be here. The rest we will see later.

"My goal is to be as efficient as possible with the OL, to fufill the objectives of the club as well as my personal goals.
