A's bench coach Chip Hale is the first candidate known to receive a second interview for the Mariners' managerial and would appear as such to at least be considered a finalist.

The Mariners are aiming to have a manager in place by the end of this coming week, according to sources, so Hale's second interview is a very good sign for him. Hale was a Mets coach before joining Bob Melvin's staff in Oakland, and before that a longtime minor-league manager.

Hale interviewed for the Mets manager job that went to Terry Collins. He played in the majors with the Twins and Dodgers.

Other candidates may well be getting second interviews, but it is thus far unknown, and the Mariners are keeping thr process especially secret, as is their nature.
