Jose Mourinho wants to make a January push for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala.

Chelsea boss Mourinho was keen on the 22-year-old centre-half in the summer window but could not get the deal done.

Megabucks French club Monaco are also believed to be eager and the west Londoners are trying to jump the gun on them by launching a new approach in January.

Mourinho wants to strengthen his defence and sees Mangala as the perfect solution as he is 6ft 2in while also boasting pace and power.

Mangala was seen as a potential replacement for Brazilian David Luiz who has failed to hold down a regular place since Mourinho's arrival and is on Barcelona's wanted list.

It is believed super-agent Jorge Mendes is working on a deal.

Porto insist Mangala has a £40m buy-out clause and while Chelsea will not go that high they may be willing to offer £20m.
