Schalke have big plans for Max Meyer with German newspaper Bild saying in September that the club would ease him into the team as a replacement for Julian Draxler who is expected to leave at the end of the current season. The eighteen year old is being worked into the first team picture and has a bright feature both at Schalke and in German football generally but Chelsea have already taken note and made a €15m bid according to Der Westen and a report on Friday morning.

The outlet says that Chelsea have already made an offer for the player, who still lives with his parents, and reckon that Schalke were even worried about playing him too much against Chelsea so as not to up the interest further, which sounds a little far fetched.

Meyer has a release clause of €18m, which makes you wonder why Chelsea would only bid €15m, and Schalke wouldn't confirm receipt of the offer to Der Westen. The reasoning for the lower bid than the buyout clause could be that Chelsea weren't aware of it, they will be now.
