For more than two weeks, he was trade bait, or so it was said. He's the guy folks outside of San Diego thought the Padres wanted to deal, the guy who was widely considered the most desirable player available to teams looking for a key addition for their title runs.

Two weeks later, Chase Headley is the National League Player of the Week. A first.

Perhaps, just perhaps, one had a little something to do with the other. Learning of the award in the visiting clubhouse at Turner Field on Monday afternoon, Headley was honored and sharing of the recognition with teammates. Headley also allowed that he felt so much more relaxed in what he was doing when the trading deadline passed and he hadn't gone anywhere.
