A neck sprain Malcom Floyd suffered last month will end his 2013 season.

The Chargers placed the wide receiver on injured reserve Tuesday. Veteran wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins was signed in his place after working out for the team last week.

Floyd 32 is under contract through 2015. His agent Buddy Baker said he is expected to make a full recovery in time for next season.

On Sept. 15 Floyd was injured when attempting to catch a third-quarter pass against the Eagles. Linebacker DeMeco Ryans separated Floyd from the football a blow that was not penalized but drew a $21000 fine from the league.

Ryans was charged for striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area with his shoulder. Floyd was transported to a Philadelphia hospital later traveling back to San Diego with the team.

Rookie Keenan Allen 21 will continue starting in Floyd's place. He was impressive Sunday setting career highs with five catches for 80 yards against the Cowboys.
