Yes, Youkilis, the new Yankee, has a glittering major league resume that includes All-Star appearances and a Gold Glove Award, not to mention the championships in 2004 and 2007 with the Red Sox, yet he may be best known for that unusual batting stance.

He is trying to change it this spring, but the image lingers: the bat cocked above Youkilis’ head toward the pitcher was noticeable enough, but his right hand was dramatically unconventional, all the way up near the trademark of the bat before he slid it down into a traditional position as the pitcher released the ball.
