Cornerback Antoine Winfield has told the Seahawks that he will sign with them, giving Seattle a physical, veteran defender who is a three-time Pro Bowler.

Josina Anderson of ESPN was first to report the fact Winfield agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Seahawks, and that report was later confirmed by The Seattle Times.

Winfield, who turns 36 in June, played the past nine seasons in Minnesota. He entered the league as a first-round pick in 1999, chosen by Buffalo. The Vikings released Winfield last month as he was scheduled to make $7.25 million in 2013. The fact that Minnesota was seeking to re-sign him showed that the Vikings still thought he was viable and important player.
