The Blue Jays' latest waiver claim, outfielder Casper Wells, joined the team prior to the game and to clear space on the 25-man roster, right-handed reliever Edgar Gonzalez was designated for assignment. Gonzalez cleared waivers and was optioned to triple-A Buffalo.

The move leaves the Jays with an added outfielder, a right-handed hitter, and the bullpen reduced to seven men.

"He's always had success hitting left-handed pitching so we brought him over for that role," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He can play all three outfield spots, is a good solid outfielder. He's just a good baseball player but primarily will face left-handed pitching.
