Carl Crawford came to Boston in 2011 as a pricey centerpiece in the Red Sox' dynastic ambitions. Last night, he made his 2012 debut with lowered personal expectations.

"I was a big part of a puzzle that was supposed to win a championship," Crawford said before the Red Sox' 5-1 win against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park. "Now I want to get back out there and try to help, and looking at it that way, you want to get back out there as fast as you can.

"This year I'm going to try not to put too much pressure on myself like I did last year. I'm just going to try and relax a little bit more. I understand what I need to do and understand what my game is and how I can help the team and stick to that."
