Carl Crawford looked at the lineup posted on the clubhouse wall at Rangers Ballpark once last night. What was significant was he didn't look twice.

Bobby Valentine's decision to drop Crawford to seventh in the batting order seven games into his return to the lineup after a half-season spent rehabbing from wrist surgery and assorted other maladies was the kind of move that a year ago Crawford believes sent him spiraling into a deep sea of self-doubt from which he never recovered.

Crawford spoke at length recently about what he felt were the deleterious effects of then-Sox manager Terry Francona's decision to move him from second in the order to seventh after only two games in 2011.
