The Canucks will head into the longest road of their season missing two key players.
And it gets worse, as both left winger Chris Higgins and defenceman Chris Tanev are not expected to be available for the remainder of the regular season – which ends on April 27.
Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault was already in full playoff mode in terms of injury disclosure on Tuesday before the team headed to Calgary for a game on Wednesday.
Vigneault said both players have lower body injuries and won’t be on the upcoming five-game, nine day road trip. Asked if he was hopeful they would be ready for the playoffs, which begin on April 30, Vigneault said: “hopefully, yes.”
Later in his media conference Vigneault appeared to suggest that the leg injury to Tanev might be worse than that suffered by Higgins. On Tanev’s status, he said: “Not quite sure yet. It’s indefinitely.”
