All signals point to Bryan Colangelo staying with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment but in a role away from basketball.
According to multiple sources, Colangelo will assume a senior management position within the conglomerate and the search for a new president and general manager for the Raptors will continue.
There is no official word on what Colangelo’s precise duties will be nor official confirmation from the company but he will have a “corporate role” in the company. Colangelo has been tightly aligned with minority owner Larry Tanenbaum throughout his tenure with the Raptors.
MLSE had an option year on Colangelo’s contract as the chief Raptors executives and sources told The Star the decision was up against a Monday deadline.
Negotiations on finding Colangelo a role in the organization had been ongoing between him, incoming chief executive officer Tim Leiweke and members of the company’s ownership group.
