It certainly wasn’t good news for anybody when Adam McQuaid was lost for the game after logging just 44 seconds of ice time Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The rangy stay-at-home defenseman had skated all of two shifts with the first one resulting in a fight with Toronto tough guy Frazer McLaren with both players throwing right handed bombs at each other.

Once McQuaid got out of the penalty box his right leg gave out on him behind the Boston net as he attempted to quickly change direction, and the B’s defenseman immediately crumpled to the ice. McQuaid grabbed at the top of his right leg when he tumbled to the ice, and needed help to get to the dressing room never to return to the game.

That meant more ice time for the other five Bruins defensemen for the majority of the 3-1 victory over the Maple Leafs, and additional responsibilities for all of the blue liners. Coach Claude Julien said he didn’t have much of an update after the game on an injury that appeared to be lower body.
