The Browns got a jump on their final cuts today by waiving seven players -- including six rookies -- and trimming their roster to 68.

They must get down to 53 by Saturday's 6 p.m. deadline.

There were no surprises among today's cuts which included offensive lineman Braxston Cave wide receiver Mike Edwards tight end Dan Gronkowski cornerback Abdul Kanneh running back Miguel Maysonet defensive back Kent Richardson and punter Colton Schmidt.

Of the seven the only non-rookie was Gronkowski who was in his third NFL season. Gronkowski caught a 14-yard TD pass from quarterback Brian Hoyer during Thursday night's 18-16 victory over the Bears but it wasn't enough to avoid a pink slip.

Gronkowski brother of Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was originally signed by the Browns in December of 2011 and was waived in the final cuts last year. Overall he's started five NFL games including four with Denver in 2010.

Some players on the bubble heading into Saturday's final cuts include 2012 fourth-round pick James-Michael Johnson who picked off a pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown against the Bears.
