Let’s take a look at where things stand with Brian Waters.

Yes he’s had discussions with the Cowboys. Think back to last week and the club’s unsuccessful bid for Brandon Moore. The veteran guard said he was going to sleep on the decision then suddenly turned around a few hours later and agreed to the Cowboys offer. Moore doesn’t rush his decision unless the club has a similar contract on the table to Waters and he’s afraid he loses the deal by waiting overnight.

Moore did wake up the next morning and decide to retire. He passed on a one-year deal that had the potential to pay him $2 million. The fact Waters hasn’t budged means he wants more.

So how will this play out? The better Ron Leary and Mackenzy Berneadau play the less leverage Waters has to receive an offer that will lure him out of retirement. But if those two stumble or one goes down with injury it will increase Waters stock. Both sides appear comfortable letting this scenario play out for the moment.

The holding pattern continues.
