Veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse is easily the best remaining starting pitcher on the free agent market and certainly would be a good fit on the Brewers' roster.
Any interested party not only would have to satisfy the contract demands of Lohse and agent Scott Boras but also forfeit a first-round draft pick (if not in the first 10 picks) as well as the pool money associated with that pick. To hear Brewers owner Mark Attanasio tell it at the team's fan fest Sunday, it's not the loss of the draft pick preventing Lohse from wearing a Milwaukee uniform.
"There's always a chance," said Attanasio. "It's a function of size of contract, length of contract. Kyle had phenomenal seasons the last two seasons (with St. Louis). We just have to see that fits in our overall scheme. We do stay in touch. As (GM) Doug (Melvin) says, he goes to the office every day. In fact, we've had a couple of trade conversations the last two weeks.
Brewers would give up draft pick if price for Kyle Lohse was right
