Strong safety Brandon Meriweather said that he would like to make his preseason debut Saturday when the Redskins host the Buffalo Bills. But he doesn’t yet know if his coaches and the team’s medical personnel will allow him to do so.

Meriweather has spent the offseason and training camp working his way back from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament last fall. He has practiced on varying levels since the start of training camp. He practiced fully to start camp then missed time while letting soreness in his surgically repaired right knee subside.

Meriweather last week practiced fully for four consecutive days – his longest stretch of camp – while working on the scout-team defense.
He said Wednesday morning that he feels good and would like to play but added that it wasn’t his call. The Redskins could opt to hold Meriweather out until the season opener on Sept. 9.
