Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie dropped his appeal of the suspension handed down by Major League Baseball for his helmet-throwing tirade Tuesday night.

Lawrie will instead sit out the next four games, which also appears to be part of the club's move Thursday to call up third baseman Yan Gomes from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Jays announced Gomes' call-up as part of a roster move that saw the struggling Adam Lind sent to the minors to work on his hitting.

But with Lawrie out four games and Lind demoted, the club required a move to fill the resulting hole in the roster.
