The Blue Jays have activated third baseman Brett Lawrie off the 15-day DL, the team announced. To clear room on the roster, infielder Munenori Kawasaki was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Lawrie, 23, missed a little less than two months with a left ankle sprain. He went 8-for-32 (.250) with one home run in 10 minor-league rehab games before being activated. A ribcage injury caused him to start the season on the DL.

In 37 games between the ribcage and ankle injuries, Lawrie hit .209/.268/.374 (72 OPS+) with five home runs. He hit .273/.324/.405 (96 OPS+) in 125 games last year, his first full season in the big leagues. He has been on the DL four times since making his MLB debut in August 2011, in part because of his all-out (and occasionally out of control) style of play.
