The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Alexander Wennberg to a three-year Entry Level contract, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Wennberg, 19, was Columbus’ first pick, 14th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft.

“The Columbus Blue Jackets are very pleased to have reached agreement with Alexander on a three-year Entry Level contract,” said Kekalainen. “In talking to Alexander after the season, he made it very clear that he wanted to sign, work hard this summer and then come to training camp to try to make our team. He is an outstanding young player and we are excited to watch him develop in the coming years.”

Wennberg recently completed his rookie season in the SHL with Frolunda HC, finishing second on the club with 16 goals and also dishing out five assists for 21 points in 50 games. He added 1-0-1 in seven playoff games and was a finalist for the league’s Rookie of the Year award.
