The jersey number is different. The tone is different. The role and production had better be different.

Ben Gordon admits he was completely lost the past two seasons. That didn't put him in unique company on a Pistons team that floundered and pouted and generally looked miserable. Gordon, along with forward Charlie Villanueva, carried a big contract, which produced a big ugly label.

As the Pistons move forward under new owner Tom Gores and new coach Lawrence Frank, it would help if a couple players became who they were supposed to be. Everyone knows rookie Brandon Knight will get time to show he's a dynamic guard, and building blocks Greg Monroe and Jonas Jerebko will get time to grow. Even free-agent Rodney Stuckey will get a bit more time to grasp reality and sign.
