Add another injury to the insult of another Red Sox loss.

Josh Beckett won't make his scheduled start tomorrow night at Wrigley Field because of right shoulder inflammation. According to a source, Beckett will stay with the team this weekend before being re-evaluated Monday in Boston.

As he left the clubhouse following the Red Sox' 3-0 loss to the Cubs, Beckett deferred comment until later this weekend.

"I have family here," Beckett said. "I'll talk tomorrow."

Lefty reliever Franklin Morales will take Beckett's spot in the rotation against the Cubs. He hasn't made a start in the majors since 2009 with the Colorado Rockies.

Manager Bobby Valentine indicated Beckett's problems didn't develop during his most recent start Monday night in Miami or in his ensuing bullpen session, but rather came about because of an accumulation of things. After checking him out this week, the Red Sox' training staff advised that he not make his next start.

"In the training room, when they test them, they just feel like he's not quite recovering on a five-day rotation right now," Valentine said. "The training room thinks that it's best that he rest it a little. I think they're going to do a baseline to see where we are with that whole situation."
