Mandzukic has had a number of fall outs with boss Pep Guardiola and with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Borrusia Dortmund in the summer, the Croatian's time looked up.

He does have a contract till 2016 and Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hopes the striker will stay.

Rummenigge said: "Mario Mandzukic is under contract with our club.

"I am definitely aware that many clubs have started to show an interest in Mario's services, but I believe he will be with our club way beyond the end of this season."

Rummenigge's words will come as a blow to Arsenal who are in desperate need of a high-quality striker.

Nicklas Bendtner's boozy Copenhagen trip was the last straw for manager Arsene Wenger and Yaya Sanogo remains largely untried as back up to Olivier Giroud, so Mandzukic fits the bill perfectly.
