The Avalanche changed up one of its top two lines at practice Tuesday. Time will tell if things stay that way.

But it was a big change by coach Patrick Roy in moving veteran Steve Downie onto a line with Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly.

Previously P.A. Parenteau had been on the line with Duchene and O'Reilly but Parenteau skated with Nathan MacKinnon and Jamie McGinn on Tuesday.

The Avalanche will play its first preseason game Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center against the Anaheim Ducks. The Avs have yet to disclose their lineup for the game other than saying Semyon Varlamov will start in goal.
