As New England Patriots defensive back Derrick Martin was playing in the AFC championship game Sunday, two masked men robbed and ransacked his Aurora home.

Two robbers forced their way inside Martin's home at about 8:05 p.m., stealing numerous items of value, Aurora police spokesman Frank Fania said.

At least one adult and several children were home at the time.

"We don't know if he was specifically targeted or not," Fania said. "There was nothing said during the robbery that would indicate that."

Still, random home-invasion robbers are rare, Fania said.

The two armed men didn't stay long, and victims were not able to provide a solid description of the men or their vehicle.

"No shots were fired; no threats were made," Fania said. "Thankfully, no one was hurt."

Martin is in his sixth NFL season. He was born in the metro area and went to Thomas Jefferson High School. He played college football at the University of Wyoming.
