Astros manager Bo Porter said Tuesday he’s part of a spiritual book club featuring more than 700 members. Among the regular readers: Washington Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper.
Porter on his book club: Quite a few of those guys are actually on the book club e-mail, so we actually communicate with each other every morning with the book club and there were some responses back. You know, ‘Hey, can’t wait to see you today.’ They were actually more interested in Bryce (Porter), my son coming than actually the ballgame. ‘Hey, is Bryce coming today?’
Who’s in the book club: Oh, boy. It’s a long list. From Harper to Desmond, Tyler Moore, Lombardozzi, Clippard, Storen, LaRoche. It’s about 23 guys. I would sit here and be naming names for a long time.
What the club’s been reading: Actually, it’s a spiritual-devotional book. Last year, the book was Tony Dungy, ‘Uncommon Life.’ This year, it’s a spiritual-devotional. Daily declaration of spirituality and it’s a message that goes out every day. It started with probably like 20 people and it’s now over 700 people in the book club.
