The A's acquired catcher John Jaso from Seattle on Wednesday in a three-team deal that sent slugger Michael Morse to the Mariners and Oakland pitching prospect A.J. Cole to Washington.

Jaso, 29, hit .276 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs for the Mariners last season. He had an on-base percentage of .394 while compiling an .850 OPS in 361 plate appearances.

Oakland designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment to make room for Jaso on its 40-man roster.

Oakland split its catching duties between Derek Norris and Kottaras during the second half of the 2012 season, but Jaso figures to get the bulk of the playing time in 2013.
