Argentinian defender Nicolas Spolli has revealed he rejected interest from Tottenham to remain at Catania.

The 30-year-old who has been a key figure for the Serie A side since his 2009 switch from Newell's Old Boys claims he was targeted by Andre Villas-Boas earlier this summer.

But the centre-back insists he never had any intention of trading Catania for north London.

He told La Sicilia: "At the end of last season I met with the president. I told him if he agreed that I would like to stay in Catania. The team knew my desire - it was not news when we received the request from Tottenham.

"In Catania I'm fine it's a beautiful city.
