Steve Bernier slid full speed into the end boards and had to leave practice Monday morning at AmeriHealth Pavilion as the Devils prepared for Tuesday's home matinee against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bernier was taking on Marek Zidlicky one-on-one and cut to the outside when the two got tangled up. Bernier went down and slid hard into the end boards, head and shoulder first.

Trainer Rich Stinziano was summoned and Bernier skated off gingerly on his own. Teammates slapped their sticks as Bernier left.

Rookie Reid Boucher was moved into Bernier's spot with Patrik Elias at center and Stephen Gionta at right wing. Jacob Josefson took Boucher's place on the line with Andrei Loktionov and Cam Janssen.

Defenseman Adam Larsson (knee) and Anton Volchenkov, who missed Saturday night's game because of "total body soreness" practiced along with left winger Ryan Carter.

Peter Harrold (fractured foot) and Damien Brunner (right knee) remain out.
