Veteran reliever Ryan Madson whose struggles serve as a lonely reminder than nothing is to be assumed with regard to a pitcher's recovery from Tommy John Surgery has been released by the Angels.

Madson underwent the procedure in April 2012 and thanks to a number of setbacks has since managed to throw only one inning -- that lone frame coming as part of an abortive rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire earlier this season.

In November of 2012 the Angels signed Madson to a one-year $3.5 million deal and in January of that same year the Reds inked him to a one-year $8.5 million pact with a $2.5 million buyout for 2013. He threw a pitch for neither major-league club.

Madson age 32 has a 3.59 ERA (122 ERA+) 1.29 WHIP and 2.86 K/BB ratio across parts of nine major-league seasons all of which were with the Phillies.
