Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus will not accompany his winter-league team to the Caribbean World Series.

Magallanes said on Thursday that Andrus is among several players who will not participate in the event, which opens on Friday at Hermosillo, Mexico. Magallanes won the Venezuelan title on Wednesday night with an 11-9 win over Lara in Game 7 of the championship series.

Andrus' decision likely pleases the Rangers, who wanted him to rest in the off-season. After appearing in a career-high 158 games with the Rangers last season, Andrus played in 40 games and had 141 at-bats with Magallanes.
