The biggest story at the 82nd All-Star Game has been who isn't at Chase Field, and the most angst has been directed at Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter for pulling out only a few days after collecting his 3,000th hit.
Count commissioner Bud Selig among those on Jeter's side. Selig said that he knows why Jeter backed out -- reportedly because of mental and physical fatigue -- and would have made the same decision.
"Any suggestion that I or anybody else around here is unhappy with him not being here is just false," Selig said during his annual All-Star Game session with the Baseball Writers Association of America.
