Injured first baseman Allen Craig still has his sprained left foot in a boot and Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said X-rays will be taken of the foot on Thursday’s off day.

Otherwise Mozeliak said “Nothing’s changed.”

But that really isn’t good news in terms of Craig being able to play this last regular-season week or even early in the playoffs.

Mozeliak said that if Craig was able to take the next step in his recovery it might involve him taking some swings against pitchers being schooled in the instructional league in Jupiter Fla. or establishing a sort of simulated game here.

“But” said Mozeliak “I hate to focus too much on that because I don’t know if he’s ever going to be physically ready to do that this year.

“The way I’m always more comfortable dealing with players is when they’re cleared to go do baseball-related activities. He hasn’t been cleared for that yet.”
