Playing right field works for Alex Rios. Hitting the ball in that general direction does, too.

Rios, who batted .227 while struggling for most of the season until September, hopes to use the whole field and not pull everything.

"My main goal is to cover the whole plate,'' Rios said. "It's not easy to cover both sides, but I'm going to try to cover right-center to left field.''

Rios' production has been better that way throughout his career. His dead-pull ways usually result in repeated ground balls to shortstop.
