Alan Pardew did NOT hold a post-game crisis meeting with Toon owner Mike Ashley last night – despite internet rumours that the Toon boss offered to resign after the 3-2 defeat against Everton.

United sources have indicated the supposed offer did not take place on Merseyside.

The Chronicle understands Pardew will remain as manager despite the loss at Goodison Park and is eager to put things right for the next game at Cardiff City.

And despite those reports Ashley left Merseyside without speaking to Pardew after the game.

But should Ashley decide to part company with the manager he handed an eight-year contract to only last year he would have no option but to stump up a huge pile of compensation to the 2012 LMA manager of the year.

Ashley would be likely to turn to Kinnear for a second stint as manager at St James’ Park.
