Fans wondered if Jacoby Ellsbury could repeat his MVP-caliber 2011. They wondered if David Ortiz could produce at age 36. They wondered if Mike Aviles could replace Marco Scutaro.
They did not wonder about Gonzalez (or Dustin Pedroia, in the interests of accuracy). If anything, the question was a greedy one — exactly how many more home runs would Gonzo hit this year after belting 27 in his Red Sox debut?
