A year ago, when the Red Sox trudged home after going winless on a season-opening six-game road trip, Adrian Gonzalez projected panic amid a sea of calm.

This season, a 1-5 start has only left the slugger annoyed.

So after the Red Sox wasted another stellar start from ace Jon Lester yesterday and lost, 3-1, in the finale of a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Gonzalez resisted the urge to sound his typically reassuring, things-can-only-look-up tone. He also wasn't taking solace in three of the five losses coming by two runs or less or the Sox' having a knack for ninth-inning rallies.
