It's safe to say that Adrian Gonzalez' "guarantee" of a home run did not go unnoticed in either clubhouse yesterday. Made partly in jest following Wednesday's frustrating 2-1 loss to the Rays, teammates playfully mocked Gonzalez as "Broadway Joe" and "Babe Ruth."
In the home clubhouse, Rays left-hander David Price heard the boast, too. He went so far as to retweet a suggestion starter Matt Moore "should put one right between his numbers." Lo and behold, Moore did drill Gonzalez in his first at-bat, though his intentions were murky given it loaded the bases.
"If it was, it was the stupidest thing I've ever seen in baseball," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine. "But it might have been. I doubt it."
Adrian Gonzalez call was no hit
