It is beginning to look like prosecutors will have a tough time proving without a reasonable doubt that former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez pulled the trigger and murdered Odin Lloyd.

One of the key witnesses against Hernandez in the case was Carlos Ortiz, who was in the car with Hernandez when the alleged murder happened, but Ortiz will no longer be serving as a witness in the trial because he is viewed as “completely unreliable” thanks to his ever changing account of what happened on that fateful night.

The news comes via the Taunton (Mass.) Daily Gazette.

According to the Associated Press, prosecutors will now be looking to search through Hernandez’s old messages for “coded messages” to see if Hernandez has ever admitted or hinted to murdering Lloyd.
