Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty suffered an injury after colliding with a goal post during the first period of Saturday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
During a rush to the net, Hurricanes defenceman Brett Bellemore checked Pacioretty off his feet and into the post.
Pacioretty remained on the ice for a few minutes before getting helped to the dressing room.
There’s no word on the extent of his injury, but it could force him out of Team USA’s lineup at the Sochi Olympics.
Bobby Ryan was perhaps the most surprising omission on the 25-man roster back in January. Ryan has 18 goals this season with the Ottawa Senators — trailing just two U.S.-born players — and is among league leaders with 36 points. He has scored at least 30 times in four previous years.
Kyle Okposo of the New York Islanders was also left off the Olympic roster.
