Patriots players past and present teed off at the Pinehills Golf Club on Monday with the hopes of tackling cancer in support of the Joe Andruzzi Foundation.

This was Andruzzi’s Sixth Annual Golf Tournament. The former Patriots offensive lineman is a cancer survivor and the event raises funds for both research and families. Last year’s tournament raised $278,000.

“The foundation gives financial assistance to families and individuals struggling through cancer battles,” Andruzzi said. “The Joe Andruzzi Foundation helps pay those backend bills you forget about – the mortgage, rent, utilities and many things like that as well as help bring funds to cancer research.

“Every year is getting bigger and better, trying to raise more and more funds to help more and more families. Since our birth in 2008 we’ve helped over 1,500 families and that number keeps on rising. We’ve also helped donate over $500,000 to brain cancer research and we want to do more.”

Andruzzi was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Burkitt’s lymphoma in 2007 and founded his foundation, along with his wife Jen, in 2008. Andruzzi has been cancer free for seven years.
