Former NBA scoring champ Tracy McGrady allowed two hits and two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings over the weekend in his debut for the Sugar Land Skeeters, an independent-league team in Houston.
The Skeeters have given the 7x former all-star an opportunity - they previously allowed 50-year-old Roger Clemens to do the same in 2012. Free press is free press. It’s not like T-Mac can’t be entertaining.
So like Paris Hilton releasing albums and music videos or Kim Kardashian acting in movies. Someone with privilege and mediocre celebrity/talent is given an unwarranted opportunity solely so someone else can profit off their name.
This case being much slimier given that roster spots are limited and a player who chose baseball as his profession loses his spot to someone that’s made over $100 million playing another sport and at age 34 wont be anything but a side show. If McGrady could throw a fastball 95-100 mph’s that would be different, but an 84 mph fastball?
Good luck throwing those 84-mph fastballs, I hope you sell a lot of jerseys until you get hurt - as anyone that’s followed T-Mac’s career knows will happen. Is there a Vegas line on T-Mac having Tommy John surgery this year yet? Check out his debut.
Could the MLS be his next calling?
