I don’t consider myself a baseball lover, I watch baseball - if only because there isn’t much else on the brain drainer during the dog days of summer. The World Cup was amazing and only served to remind me the MLB season is way too long and filled with too many meaningless games.
It’s not that I find baseball boring, its just monotonous. Sure exciting things happen but not consistently enough to keep my interest - or most casual fans as TV ratings indicate. Baseball has morphed into a regional sport, people watch/follow their team but don’t generally watch baseball for the thrill of the sport.
The flip side of that is I love baseball highlights, not the Sportscenter clips but the YouTube stuff. So many strange things happen at baseball games.
Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was challenged by a reporter to throw a baseball from home plate over the centerfield fence. Amazing, that’s unreal how far he threw that. I’m assuming he had a meeting shortly after with his manager reminding him not to do that ever again.
Cubs Anthony Rizzo made as nice a catch as you're ever likely to see at a baseball game. The first baseman tracked a foul ball and went over a railing to make the catch. The bad part was the Diamondbacks had a runner on third and when Rizzo landed out of bounds it invoked rule 7.04(c)
. As a result the umpires waived David Peralta in from third. The Diamondbacks won 3-2 another reminder that the Baseball gods hate the Cubs.
If a fielder, after having made a legal catch, should fall into a stand or among spectators or into the dugout or any other out-of-play area while in possession of the ball after making a legal catch, or fall while in the dugout after making a legal catch, the ball is dead and each runner shall advance one base, without liability to be put out, from his last legally touched base at the time the fielder fell into, or in, such out-of-play area.
No explanation needed.
Bonus Section: The unnecessary
The worst part about watching baseball is the announcers, I understand their job is horrible and difficult but why are they universally so awful. Is there any other profession in the world that the best person on the planet is 86 years old?
