The opening round of The Open Championship is in the books. Rory McIlroy leads the pack after firing a 6-under 66, but nothing that Rory did on the course today will get him featured on RedZone.
What we do have today is a pair of Tiger Woods highlights (good for ratings...haha) and another blow-up from the hot-headed Henrik Stenson.
In a classic Tiger Woods moment, he stopped his club mid-swing to curse out some photographers who were clicking pics too early. It still amazes me when he pulls this move and has become a bit of a signature. Watch the back, Tiger.
Tiger started his opening round bogey-bogey but rebounded very well to post a very respectable 3-under on the day. He will be very pleased with this result and being only three shots back at this stage of the event is the perfect striking distance for him to pounce on the leaders.
On the 17th hole of his impressive round, his iron of the tee bled to the right and clunked a course official right in the side of the face. The dude who got hit just went beast-mode, took the golf ball off the face, and continued with his job. Damn...that's gotta hurt.
The big Swede Henrik Stenson has a history of having a short fuse on the golf course. We've all been there. While abusing the course is not a respectful way to vent your anger, I believe that abusing your own equipment is perfectly acceptable.
Well on Thursday morning, Stenson went all Bo Jackson on his iron after his approach shot on 17. Stenson (one of the favorites coming into the event) finished with a disappointing round of even par (72).
